Charlene F. Young, of Pepperell, passed away July 30, 2019 at the advanced age of 102 years surrounded by her family. Born in Concord, New Hampshire June 22, 1917 to William and Emogene Armstrong,the youngest of four children, two brothers, Glenn W. Armstrong and Adna Armstrong and sister Aldian (Wason). She was living in Brookline NH when she met and married Wesley Young of Pepperell July 9, 1939, and had four children. Robert and his wife Donna Young of Pepperell, Gregg and his wife Lynne Young and their daughter Hailee of New Boston, Gary Young who assisted and cared for his Mother for many years, and her daughter Gail Pitarys (Young) and husband Robert of Nashua New Hampshire.
Charlene and Wesley loved to travel and visited places like Egypt, England, France, Switzerland, Spain, Venice, Holland and Alaska and many times accompanied by her children and her brother in law Aaron and Betty Young of New Jersey.
Charlene enjoyed her work as Manager at Bookberry in Ayer until she was 82 years old and only retired to care for her husband Wes. She was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan, rarely missing a game on the television. Reading and genealogy were also very important to her and she left a lot of valuable information of her family tree dating back to the late 1500’s. Charlene enjoyed her trips to Foxwoods to play blackjack where she was quick to inform you if you were not playing correctly. She enjoyed the friendship of her two longtime friends Winnie Goodwin and Grace Jakusik.
Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren include Robert his two sons Michael and his daughter Everly and Zachary Young, Keith and his wife Trisha and his three children Daniel, Amanda and Timothy Young, Ronnie and his wife Nicole his children Jacob and Avery Young, Scott Pitarys and his partner Dawn Bellino and her grand daughter Natalia Bellino (Madison), Brent Pitarys and his wife Michele and their children Ashley Pitarys, Brooke (O’Neill) Solazzo, Ella O’Neill-Pitarys and Ava O’Neill-Pitarys, Tracy (Pitarys) and Donald Desrosiers their children Robert Woods, Katelyn Tilbe (Woods) her husband Justin and daughter Aubree.
The family would like to thank the Merrimack Valley Hospice Nurses and Chaplain.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019 in the McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main St. (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA from 10-12. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12 PM. Interment at Park Street Association Cemetery, next to her beloved husband Wesley.
