Eleanor (Bywater) Powell

Eleanor (Bywater) Powell of Groton, Massachusetts passed away on September 15, 2019 at the Apple Valley Center in Ayer following a period of declining health. She was 98 years old.

Mrs. Powell was the loving wife of LaRue Bodie Powell, who predeceased her on December 31, 1999.

Eleanor was born in Groton on August 24, 1921 a daughter of the late Thomas Bywater and Ada T. Bywater. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Bywater.

Eleanor attended Groton High School and went on to attend Becker College in Boston. Following her studies she went on to work as a Secretary for Hollingsworth and Vose in West Groton. During World War II, Eleanor worked at the former Fort Devens. Following the war and throughout the 1960s, Eleanor worked for the United States Postal Service in Groton.

Eleanor was very proud to be a lifelong resident of Groton. She lived in her for home for 98 years and was a member of the Groton Neighbors Club.

Eleanor’s proudest accomplishment was her family. She is survived by her daughter Susan Tyndall and her husband Merrill of Deep Run, North Carolina and David L. Powell and his wife Christine of Townsend. Eleanor is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
