Iain William Rodger

Iain William Rodger passed away peacefully on Saturday July 8, 2017 at the age of 63. He was surrounded by family that loves him, and with the love of family who could not be by his side.

Iain was born on March 17th, 1954, at the Bellshill Hospital in Scotland, the son of John and Mary Rodger, and grew up in Hamilton, Scotland along with his sister Marjory. He married his wife Barbara at the Trinity Church in Cambuslang, Scotland on September 18th, 1976. During their 41 year marriage they travelled the world together with their three children, Wendy, David, and Colin, and lived in Scotland, France, Texas and Massachusetts, where they ultimately settled down in Pepperell, MA.

Iain received his Honors Degree from Strathclyde University in Scotland in Industrial Electronics and Control Engineering. At the age of 20, he completed a prestigious apprenticeship with Honeywell Corporation, which launched him into a life-long career in the technology field taking him and his family around the globe. During his vast career, Iain held high management roles at Digital, Compaq, and Hewlett Packard, where he was an employee for 38 years. After his retirement, it took him about 3 months to decide that retirement was not for him. He took on a variety of jobs to keep himself active and social, and ultimately found himself in the automotive world at Boch Honda in Westford, a job which he enjoyed very much.

Iain had a love for travel, long walks (preferably with his beloved Harry-Dog), road trips, watching movies with his family (especially his grandchildren), singing music with friends, and a good debate. When he was younger he played soccer semi-professionally and ran marathons. Above all, Iain’s greatest joy was being the extremely proud “Papa” to his seven grandchildren. Taking them for ice cream, going to the swing park, snuggling and watching movies, and just watching them play and grow were some of his happiest times.

Iain is survived by his loving wife Barbara, his daughter Wendy and her husband Sean, his son David and his wife Lisa, his son Colin and his wife Ashley, and his sister Marjory. He was also the loving “Papa” to his seven grandchildren, Hannah (age 6), Graham, (age 4), Reilly (age 3), Lexie (age 3), Scott (age 3), Casey (age 1), and Danni (age 7 months).

A Memorial Service will be held at the First Parish Church of Groton, 1 Powder House Road, Groton, MA, on Sunday, July 16th at 2:30pm. A Celebration of Life with food and drinks will follow at the Bull Run Restaurant, 215 Great Road, in Shirley, MA at 4pm. All are welcome to attend both the service and celebration to join the family in paying tribute to Iain's life. If you play an instrument, please bring it along to the Bull Run as we would love for there to be singing and music, something Iain loved very much.
