Margaret Ann Barrett

Margaret Ann Barrett, 77, of West Groton, MA passed away Thursday May 31, 2018 at her home.

Margaret was born in Norwood on October 23, 1940, the daughter of late Matthew L. and Mary A (DeRoche) Barrett.  She spent her early life in Norwood before relocating with her family to West Groton, where she spent the rest of her life.

Margaret was a 1958 Graduate of Groton High School. She worked at Arthur D. Little and the Wool Bureau before joining Hollingsworth and Vose in 1969, where she was a devoted employee for over 40 years as a Senior Lab Technician.

Over the years she enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada, cruises to the Caribbean, and several trips to Ireland, but her favorite place was always home.  At the center of Margaret’s life was her love for family, friends, and her treasured animals. Margaret was very proud of her Irish heritage and West Groton community.  She enjoyed gardening, cutting flowers, shopping, and hosting gatherings at her home.  An avid baker, she was known for her perfect apple pies, cakes, and cookies.  Every Labor Day she would bake 12 pies to support the Fireman’s Muster, and would make a point of acknowledging co-workers and friends birthdays and special occasions with a baked treat.  A devoted Catholic, she was a lifelong parishioner of St. James in West Groton, now part of Our Lady of Grace Parish.  Margaret touched many people with her big heart, kindness, and enormous generosity, and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her nieces Kathleen LeBlanc and husband Chuck of Ayer Massachusetts, Suzanne Joyner and her husband Ned of Groton, sister-in-law Jane Barrett, and her beloved grandnephews William and Thomas Joyner. She was also the sister of the late Matthew L.  Barrett Jr. Margaret leaves her beloved cat, Irish, and was predeceased by her Greyhound, Duchess.
