Michael J. Horgan

Michael J. Horgan lived 66 years to spread joy among his friends and family and everyone he met.  He was a dedicated son to his mother Ann (Alexander) Horgan and his deceased father, Bill Horgan.  Michael shared a special relationship with his brother Bob Horgan and his sister-in-law Pam of Atkinson, NH; and his sister Laurie Masiello and his brother-in-law John of Pepperell.  Michael shared his love of Salem Willows, Edaville Railroad, the Wizard of Oz, and stories, movies and field trips with his niece Amanda Horgan, and his nephews, Alex Horgan, Robbie Horgan, CJ Masiello and his wife Robyn, and Greg Masiello and his wife Jen.  Michael is sadly missed by his grandnephews Jay and Bryant Masiello of Townsend, and Brian Masiello and his grandniece Emily Masiello of Pepperell.  One of the special joys in Michael’s life was being an uncle to this lively bunch.  Michael is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.

Mr. Horgan graduated from St. Pius V School and St. Mary’s High School, both in Lynn.  He furthered his education at Northeastern University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.  Michael worked at Honeywell and Avco after college, then tried his hand at varied positions in education, financial, social and tax services, lastly working in the family business with his brother, sister, brother-in-law and his nephews.

Having grown up in Lynn surrounded by extended family, Michael moved throughout the Boston area during college and his career.  Settling in Pepperell 15 years ago, he was surrounded by his immediate family.  No matter where he lived, Michael stayed connected to his lifelong high school friends from the Class of ’71, where he enjoyed planning high school reunions, watching plays featuring actress and classmate Paula Plum, and following MLB games in Boston, Baltimore and Chicago.  His rambunctious friends were dedicated to Michael in his last few difficult years, and transported Michael and wheelchair wherever the party was no matter the distance.

Michael loved music, singing and dancing, and at his passing, Beatles’ music played to soothe his transition.  He was a fan of all New England sports teams, Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots.  He was an unbeatable trivia wiz, taking one turn in Trivial Pursuit which always ended the game too soon for other players, and avidly enjoyed Jeopardy where he knew all the answers.  His wish to try out for Jeopardy was thwarted by his declining health, so from his armchair he was the Jeopardy champion.

Always positive and focused on others, despite his health issues, Michael was compassionate, kind, caring and loving.  Succumbing to complications from diabetes, Michael and his family appreciate the many dedicated medical professionals who brightened his many days as he quizzed them on their backgrounds to find commonality.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Michael’s life at Alpine Grove, 19 S Depot Rd, Hollis, NH 03049 on Sunday, December 1st from 1pm to 5pm.  All are welcome.
