Suzanne Irene (Collins) Curran

Suzanne I. Curran passed away in Ayer, MA after a brief illness on November 10, 2017. Suzanne was born on February 27, 1933 in Salem, MA  to Henry and Delia (Sullivan) Collins. Suzanne graduated from St. Chretienne Academy and Salem Teachers College. After college, Suzanne pursued a teaching career and, shortly thereafter, married her husband, Dr. Richard F. Curran MD. They had 5 children and were happily married for 53 years prior to Richard’s death, in 2011.

Suzanne is also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Barbara (Gleason) Dolan. Suzanne leaves behind her two younger sisters; Mrs. Jean Hull and her husband, Robert Hull of Concord, MA, and her sister, Mrs. Marilyn Pauley and her husband, David Pauley of Ipswich, MA, as well as her sister-in-law, Sr. Joan Curran of Albany, NY.   Suzanne also leaves behind her family of five children: Dr. Patrick Curran M.D. of Amesbury, MA, State Representative Sheila Harrington and her husband, Stephen Harrington of Groton, MA, Joan Lyford and her husband, Jon Lyford of Athens, AL, Nancy Prevost and her husband, Joseph Prevost of Pepperell, MA, and Laura Duffy  and her husband, Kevin Duffy of Wolfeboro, NH. In addition, Suzanne leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Suzanne was a dedicated volunteer for the Salem Hospital Aid Association and the North Shore Cancer Center. She was a long-time member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers, MA as well as a member of  St. Mary’s of the Annunciation Sodality for many years, and A former member of St. Katherine Drexel Church in Alton, NH. Suzanne also served as a Board member on the North Shore Area Board of Mental Health and Retardation.

Suzanne was a kind, generous, loving and gracious woman and friend. She enjoyed reading, travelling, volunteering, and spending time with her family and many friends. Suzanne was a devout wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.


A visitation will be held Thursday, Nov 16, 5-8 PM at the McGaffigan Funeral Home, 37 Main St. (Rte. 113) Pepperell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 17, 11 AM at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St. Danvers, MA.
