Armand A. W. Massé

Mr. Armand A. W. MassAC., known as "Uncle Wally" to his family, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013 after a brief illness.

Armand was born in Lowell, MA. He was the son of the late Arthur and Marie-Louise (Levesque) MassAC.. He was preceded by his sister, Evelyn G. Allard; his brother Roger MassAC., his niece Marguerite D. Allard, and his nephews Richard A. Allard and Dr. Joseph R. Allard.

Mr. MassAC. was educated in Lowell schools. Shortly after graduating from high school he joined the United States Marine Corps serving from September of 1943 through February of 1946. During his tour, he fought in the battle of Saipan in which he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. In addition to the Purple Heart he also received the victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, the Navy Occupation Medal, the Honorable Service badge and the Marine Corps Honorable Discharge button.

After receiving his Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corps, Mr. MassAC. enlisted in the United States Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge in June of 1961.

Armand was later employed by Raytheon Corporation retiring after 25 years of service in the sheet metal shop where he served as Union Forman for many years. During his tenure at Raytheon, he was most proud of his efforts and the honors he received associated with the Apollo 4 Program.

Armand was very active in his communities and with his Family. He served for many years as a member of the Board of Directors for the Senior Citizens Housing Development Corporation of Boston. He was a member of the Minute Men re-enactment participating in the Bicentennial Celebrations of 1976 held at various Boston locations. He was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club; participating in many events including "spring cleaning". In retirement, he served as a member of the Neighbor Hood Community Watch for Coach Wood Colony. He had a life long love of roller coasters. In his youth he was a championship roller-skater and enjoyed swimming.

Mr. MassAC. is survived by his partner, Ms. Lucy A. Benson, a brother, Arthur MassAC., his grandnieces Catherine M. Fariz and Elizabeth A. Szakacs, and grandnephews Richard A. Fariz, Joseph P. Fariz, and Derek Allard along with several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
