Beatrice “Charlene” Wood, 84, of Ayer, Massachusetts
Beatrice C. Wood, known lovingly by her middle name Charlene, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, at the age of 84, after a brief illness. A proud resident of Ayer for over five decades, Charlene was the devoted owner of Pine Knoll Mobile Home Sites LLC, a community she nurtured with care, vision, and unwavering pride.
Charlene and her late husband, Gerrald “Gerry” Wood, operated Pine Knoll side by side for many years, building a place that reflected their shared values of dignity, independence, and neighborly connection. After Gerry’s passing in 2018, Charlene took the reins with quiet determination, making significant improvements to the park and continuing their legacy with grace and grit.
Before her time as a business owner, Charlene spent over 30 years working in the hospitality industry, where she was known for her warm smile, tireless work ethic, and ability to make anyone feel at home. Much of that time was spent at the beloved Old Oaken Bucket in Westford, Massachusetts, where she served generations of patrons with kindness and charm. She was more than a waitress—she was a fixture of the community, a familiar face who made every meal feel like a family gathering.
Born and raised in West Virginia, Charlene brought her strong spirit and entrepreneurial heart to Massachusetts, where she built not just a business, but a home for others. Her commitment to improving the quality of life for her residents was evident in every detail of the park she cherished—19 homes that stood as a testament to her values.
Charlene is survived by her beloved daughter, Kendra J. Dumont of Shirley, Massachusetts, who served as her full-time caregiver since May 9th. Their bond was deep and enduring, marked by love, loyalty, and shared strength.
She also leaves behind a large and loving extended family, whose lives were enriched by her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support. Charlene cherished her family deeply, and the love they shared was a constant source of joy and strength throughout her life.
Outside of her work and family, Charlene found joy in the companionship of her two rescue Chihuahuas, Brady and Buster, who brought light and laughter to her days.
Charlene was a woman of quiet strength, fierce independence, and generous spirit. She was known for her sharp wit, her love of country music, and her unwavering belief in doing things the right way. Her door was always open, her advice always honest, and her heart always full.
Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the community she built, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In accordance with her wishes, a private family service has been held to honor Charlene’s life and memory.
