Cynthia C. Ebert passed away on April 1, 2026 at her home in Clinton, Massachusetts. She was 76 years old.
She was born in Oak Park, Illinois on July 30, 1949, the second of three daughters to Joseph M. and Regina C. Scannell. The family resided in Illinois and New Jersey before moving in 1958 to Massachusetts, where Cynthia’s parents had been raised. The family also lived in England for several years in the 1960s before returning to Massachusetts.
Cynthia’s passion and talent for languages led to her graduating from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in Russian Literature. She continued her studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned a Master of Arts and completed the coursework for a Doctorate in Slavic Languages and Literature. Later in life she would earn a Master of Science in Management from Lesley University and a Doctorate from Franklin Pierce University.
Following an early IT career at Digital Equipment Corporation, Cynthia moved to the telecommunications industry, where she achieved increasing levels of responsibility. Throughout her career, Cynthia also maintained a connection to the academic world. She frequently taught graduate courses at colleges in the Boston area and around the country. She loved teaching and kept in touch with many of her students for years afterwards.
Cynthia’s interests were wide and varied, and she pursued each of them with her typical zest. She enjoyed theatrical performances of all kinds, from local events to lavish productions in Boston and New York. For many years, she and her late husband, Dr. Firoze Jungalwala, regularly attended the ballet, symphony and opera.
She maintained a lifelong fascination with languages and literature, and she would relish the opportunity to speak with others in their native tongues. Russian and Polish were forever her favorites. She also enjoyed a long association with Scouting and cherished the friendships she made through that program.
Cynthia proudly possessed a keen intellect and sharp wit, combined with unwavering faith, deep devotion to her friends, and a commitment to excellence in everything she did. These were the qualities she helped nurture in her son. Of all her accomplishments, she was first and foremost a wonderful mother.
She is survived by her son, Matthew Ebert, and his wife, Adrienne Camire; her sisters, Regina Greenwood (David Hoyte) and Jacqueline Haas (David); her nephews Ronald Greenwood, Peter Greenwood, David Haas (Kerri Daly) and William Haas (Rachel); and her stepchildren Jay Jungalwala (Julie) and Ferzin Patel (Rajan).
Calling hours will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Saint Benedict Abbey, 252 Still River Road in Still River, Massachusetts. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, also at Saint Benedict Abbey, followed by burial at Bellevue Cemetery in Harvard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cynthia’s memory to Saint Benedict Abbey in Still River (www.abbey.org), The Sisters of Saint Benedict Center, also in Still River (www.sistersofstbenedictcenter.org), or Lazarus House Ministries in Lawrence, MA (www.lazarushouse.org).
