Our favorite artist, Dana Keith Carpenter, joined the leader of the band, Parker Carpenter, on April 14, 2026. He expressed his love through his drawings, paintings, and woodwork. His work is not in any museum we’re aware of, but can be viewed in the homes of loved ones all along the eastern seaboard. It is in the watercolor landscapes tucked into handhewn frames that adorn the walls of his loved ones, on the porches he erected around Bustins Island that support generations of memories, and the countless little things he selflessly created, fixed, and maintained. Therein lies the beauty of life lived in authenticity and service to others. We will encounter Dana in little ways forever.
He is survived by his cherished partner, Debbie Guy; his loving mother, Joyce Bissell Carpenter; and siblings, Kristen Mellecker, Sarah and Sean Gilrein, Jeff and MJ Carpenter, and Todd Bissell. As well as his nieces and nephews: Chris, Trisha, and Margaret Gilrein; Taryn, Cory, Hailey, and Olivia Ritchie; Jamie, Stevie, and Laynie Gilrein; Courtney and Samantha Mellecker; and Taylor, Zack, Ali and Riley Carpenter. He was predeceased by his father, G. Parker Carpenter and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Mellecker.
Dana was born in Hyannis, Massachusetts where he was raised with his three siblings. As a young boy, if he wasn’t delivering newspapers, you could find him playing street hockey with the neighborhood kids in his driveway. After high school, he attended CCCC and played hockey for a year. Dana then spent time building relationships with friends and cousins, which took him to Florida where he then rode his bicycle from Miami to Cape Cod. After, he spent time in Colorado where he attended Denver Tech and received his Associates Degree in Autocad. Living in Colorado allowed him to ski Steamboat Springs finding fresh powder and fresh inspiration along the way. During this time, Dana met new people and gained new stories to share over the years. Dana then returned and settled in West Groton, Massachusetts, where he became the caretaker of many relatives. He then began working as a professional carpenter and continued his work until recently when he chose to put down his hammer to spend more time with loved ones.
Dana always loved his family deeply. He made sure to have genuine personal connections with those he cared about, especially his chosen partner, Deb. Dana and Debbie entered each other’s lives later in life and Debbie gave Dana a new sense of life. They were each other's best friend, bringing out the best in each other, encouraging one another to try new things, and bringing laughter in times of sorrow. They did everything together. He will be dearly missed.
