St. John the Evangelist Church

Dolores G. (Jennie) Simonds Funaiole, 88 years, of Townsend, MA, passed on April 15th at home.
Jennie grew up in Fitchburg, MA, and attended St. Joseph school. She married Albert Funaiole in 1956 and became a lifelong member of St. John's parish. She spent years as an Ecumenical Minister within the church.
Jennie had a passion for crocheting and provided blankets to homeless communities, nursing homes, and a multitude of family and friends. In later years she became a choir member with the Townsend Senior Center and performed for various organizations.
Jennie had a fiery spirit and a wicked sense of humor. She loved hosting an annual reunion for cousins, friends, and family.
Her grandchildren have lasting memories of her gathering monarch cocoons and having them watch the emergence of beautiful butterflies ready for release. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren cherished bedtime stories of "Mousie mouse" and "Nutsy squirrel."
Jennie was predeceased by her husband Albert, her sisters Theresa Aho, Beverly Promisel, and her brother Donald Simonds.
She is survived by her brother David Simonds and her sister Diane Bartie; her 7 children: David Funaiole, Catherine Funaioli Intoci, Cynthia Funaiole McKinley (and her husband Edward), Jennifer Funaioli-Sheehan, Teresa Funaiole, Martha Funaiole, and Michael Funaiole (and his wife Penelope); her grandchildren Erin Maxim, Kelley Barnaby, Krista Boudreau, Guy Intoci, Alexandra Intoci Yarnall, Jaya Jefferson, and Max Funaiole; and her great-grandchildren Sydney Revall, Devan Maxim, Olivia Hill, Matthew and Asher Boudreau, and Jameson Yarnall.
A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at St. John's Church, 1 School Street, Townsend, MA on Saturday, April 25th at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Townsend.
A private gathering of family following the services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Townsend Senior Center, Townsend, MA.
