Garry W. Matthews

Dunstable - Garry W. Matthews passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on January 24, 2022.

He was born on Feb. 18th, 1949 to Forest “Bud” Matthews and Ethel Maxine (Wright). Raised in Connersville Indiana, he graduated Connersville High School in 1967 before attending Mortuary school in Boston.

Garry was the best Funeral Director and Embalmer in the Greater Lowell area, working as a trade embalmer for numerous funeral homes. He took great care of the families he served. He was also one of the founding members of the infamous (never heard of) “Hunters No Hunters” group.

Garry was “Merican” from the mid-west and would let everyone know he was not from the northeast. He lived in Lowell for 27 years before moving to Dunstable. Having grown up in the country he was getting back to his farming roots. So, for a surprise 50th birthday party he was presented with a gift that would be his companion for the next 18 years, his beloved pet cow that he named Moo. Eventually he would add goats to keep Moo company (and whatever else his kids brought home to him).

One of Garry’s favorite things was to drive around his property on his golf cart and later in life was chauffeured around by his grandkids. The yearly pool party and bonfires were epic. The adult beverages that were consumed and food that was deep fried were delicious. The fireworks, potato cannon and all the antics that went with the bonfires will be remembered and talked about for years to come.

He liked nothing more than to sit in his rocking chair in front of the fire with Moo in the background and bluegrass music playing loudly while enjoying the night.  His ball games were nothing to mess with. He loved cheering on his Notre Dame and Ohio State football teams.

Garry leaves behind his wife of 46 years Jane (St. Louis) Matthews. His daughter Stefanie and her husband Phil Picariello of Salem, MA. His son Thomas Matthews and his wife Andrea of Pepperell, MA. His 3 grandchildren who he adored, Allan Fagundes of Haverhill MA, Taylor and Ryan Matthews of Pepperell, MA. And His Beloved brother David Mattthews and his wife Cynthia of Lawrenceburg, IN. Also, several nieces, nephews and friends.
