Herbert W. Crowley, Jr. of Pepperell, MA passed away at his home
surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, May 14, 2017 after a long,
hard-fought battle with lung cancer.
Herb was a disabled veteran who proudly served in Vietnam. While
recovering from a service-related surgery, he met his future wife,
Anna, with whom he would spend 45 years building a life, raising a
family, and earning the love and admiration of many friends whom he
considered his extended family.
He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved
spending time with his grandchildren, whom called him simply “D”. He
was the type of person who would go out of his way to offer a ride,
help fix a plumbing issue or open his home to someone in need.
“He was like a dad to me.” “He was always there when you needed help.”
“He was a caring, thoughtful, selfless man.” These are just some of
the kind words spoken of Herb by those who knew him. He had an
infectious smile and welcoming demeanor. He could walk into a room
full of strangers and leave with 50 new friends. In a world with
online banking and bill pay, Herb chose to pay his bills in person.
Old-fashioned, yes, but go anywhere in Pepperell and you’ll find
someone who has a Herb story to tell.
He is no longer with us physically, but he will forever remain in our
memories and our hearts.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 43 years Anna C. (Albanese) Crowley of Pepperell son Anthony A. Crowley of Lunenburg and daughter Stacey McGadden of Pepperell 2 brothers George Crowley and David Crowley of North Kingstown Rhode Island and sister Dorothy Mathias of Warwick Rhode Island 3 grandchildren Brady McGadden, Olivia McGadden and Aiden Crowley. A Celebration of his life is planned at a time and date to be announced.
