John J. "Uncle John" Franzek died at the Apple Valley Center in Ayer on Sunday. He was born in Groton on March 30, 1925, son of the late Stanley and Frances (Haberski) Franzek. A lifelong resident of Groton where he was educated and was a graduate of Groton High School. He served in Korea during the Korean War in the United States Army with the 182nd Engineers .
A farmer most of his life he worked the family hay farm on Common St., where they also raised cows in earlier years. Mr. Franzek also had been employed at Hollingsworth & Vose for over 30 years as a paper maker.
He is survived by his sister Wanda Antosh and his sister in law Catherine M. Franzek both of Groton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his siblings Joseph, Stanley A. and Anne Riley .
