John Stafford Sheedy Jr., born November 26, 1937, a life long resident of Groton, only child of John S. Sheedy Sr. and Alice C. Cleary, left us on February 1, 2026 in his home of 65 years.
John was a graduate of Lawrence Academy and attended Tufts University. Known to run out of class at the sound of the fire whistle, he was a Groton fireman for over twenty-five years, retiring as Deputy Chief. He served as a Cemetery Commissioner, and on the Conservation Commission. John worked for Donahue Chevrolet in Ayer, The Winchester Corporation in Littleton and Facility Engineering for the GDRSS.
As a young man he drove stock car, loved animals, NASCAR, country music, crossword puzzles, gardening, Miller Lite and most importantly his family! John had an aptitude for figures and numbers and could fix anything. He taught his kids to play cribbage, all sports, to skate and fish. Being an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed travel to NH mountains and lakes as well as the Maine coast. Grampa was the family pet sitter and chicken minder. He whistled to the point of annoyance and will be missed beyond words.
Left behind is Jean W. (Hemenway) his wife of sixty-five years; His Children: Michael (Jane) Sheedy, Karen (Jeff) Corey and John Sheedy; beloved Granddaughters: Kelly (Nicholas) Longo, Erin Sheedy, Katherine Sheedy; all of Groton, MA.
John is also survived by niece Tina McGuire and family of Mason, NH, and nephew Charles Hemenway Jr. and family of SC.
Per his wishes, there will be no wake or funeral. A simple private graveside will be held in the Groton Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to the McGaffigan Family.
