Obituary

Lillian Florence Johnson of Littleton and Chelmsford, Massachusetts passed away on the morning of April 30, 2026. Born May 22, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Otto and Marie Jorgensen. She was predeceased by her husband Richard in 1971, her parents, brother Henry Jorgensen and his wife Nellie. Also predeceased by her in-laws John and Nora Johnson, Carlyle and Grace Johnson, Elinor and Lawrence Stotts, Norman Jr and Irene Johnson, many nieces and a nephew, all of Minnesota. She is survived by her five children: Neal Johnson and his wife Donna, Cynthia Higgins and her husband Kenneth, Roger Johnson and his wife Susan, Robert Johnson, and Phillip Johnson and his wife Caitlyn. She leaves behind grandchildren Nicole, Cara, Matthew, Amy, Abigail, Charlotte and William and one great-granddaughter Cadence. She is also survived by an extended family of in-laws in Minnesota and family in Denmark.

Lillian grew up in Saugerties, New York where she graduated from high school. She went to work for IBM in Kingston, New York where she met her husband, Richard. Lillian and Richard settled in Chelmsford, Massachusetts where their children grew up. Lillian raised them alone after the sudden death of her husband when he was just 39 years old and she was 36. She enjoyed homemaking, gardening, ballroom dancing, singing, quilting, theatre arts, classical music, musicals, travel, camping, arts, crafts, socializing with friends, visits with her children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She enjoyed being out in nature, often collecting shells, rocks, pinecones and colorful fallen leaves. She often went exploring in her car and found restaurants and bakeries on her travels. She was adventurous and always on the go until a stroke left her wheelchair bound. The last years were difficult for such a free spirit to lose some independence, but she made the most of it in her long-term care home, joining every activity she could, making friends, enjoying visits from family who brought her treats and wheeled her out into the fresh air and nature she thrived in. Her Christian faith and religious community were important to her. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, originally in Lowell, Massachusetts, and now for many years located in Chelmsford. She expressed her faith through worship, service and Christian fellowship. Your troubles are over Lillian, and you can now rest in peace. We will all be sure to eat many doughnuts, cakes, goodies, drink coffee, walk in nature and go on adventures in your honor.
