Michael (Mike) J. Madigan, 83, of Pepperell, MA, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, in the presence of his wife, Catherine (Lenihan) Madigan, with whom he enjoyed 58 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Cambridge, MA, Mike graduated from Rindge Technical School. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Northeastern University. He later attended Babson College, where he received his MBA. Mike honorably served his country in the Public Health Service during the Vietnam War. He was most recently the Superintendent of Public Works in Ayer, MA. He previously worked for IBM in Binghamton, NY and Camp Dresser & McKee in Boston, MA.

Mike was a proud Irish-American and was an avid Red Sox fan. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox play at various stadiums throughout the U.S. He also enjoyed fishing with his children and granddaughters. Mike truly loved traveling throughout Europe with his wife, acting as her personal travel agent - doing the research, setting up an itinerary, and making all the necessary bookings. His biggest passion was his family, and he cherished monopoly nights with his children and granddaughters. Mike enjoyed the family-run “Camp Madigan” each summer with his four granddaughters.

Mike is survived by his wife Catherine (Lenihan) Madigan; his children: daughters Heather (Madigan) Polo and her husband, James, of Huntingtown, MD; and Kelly Madigan of Tewksbury, MA; and son James Madigan of Gaithersburg, MD. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Elizabeth and Catherine Polo and Kaitlyn and Carolyn Madigan. Mike was predeceased by his mother, Eugenia (Palmer) Madigan; his father, James Madigan; and his sister, Marie Madigan.

Visiting hours will be held in the McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main St., (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA on Friday, January 30th from 10 am - 12 pm, followed by a funeral service at 12 pm. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pepperell.
