Richard T. Snelson, 75, of Pepperell, MA passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016. Born in Boston, MA on September 24, 1940, he grew up in Lexington, raised a family in Bedford, and spent his retirement years in Pepperell.
He was the son of the late Thomas and Geraldine Snelson. He is survived by his four children Brian Snelson and wife Ann-Marie of Chelmsford, Craig Snelson and wife Lynda of Rochester, NH, Kimberly Soukup and husband Mark of Lincoln, and Kerri L'Italien and husband Kenny of Dunstable. Richard is also survived by 13 grandchildren, his former wife Joan Snelson and brothers Thomas (Toby) of Florida and Edward Snelson of Arlington.
Richard attended Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he earned his Civil Engineering degree. He served his country and was a proud member of the Navy, SeaBees battalion. After his discharge, he was employed as a surveyor for Miller & Nylander of Lexington. He later purchased real estate in Lexington, and managed these properties while painting and wallpapering for his dedicated clients in the Lexington, Concord, and Bedford area.
A lifetime fan of the Red Sox and Patriots, he also enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete in their various sports activities. He enjoyed antique car shows, which brought him back to the days of cruising in his beloved '57 Corvette.
Richard had fond memories of time spent in Waterville Valley, NH, where he vacationed with his family, skiing the slopes in the winter and biking and golfing during the summer as well as competing in the annual fall Waterville Valley Golf tournament in years past.
He enjoyed the country community of Pepperell, and especially his favorite diner - Charlotte's Cozy & Kitchen, where he found comfort and warmth in his many friends. Rich was also a proud Platinum donor to the Pepperell Railroad Square Clock.
Friends and relatives will be received by the family 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 19th at Hamilton- McGaffigan Funeral Home 37 Main St, (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
