Robert L. Mullan, 77, of Pepperell, January 20, 2016, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Groton, MA. March 30, 1938, son of the late Lindsey and Evelyn (Durant) Mullan and was the husband of the late Cynthia D. (Woods) Mullan for 38 years.
Mr. Mullan worked for over 30 years at the Pepperell paper mill (St. Regis/James River) after his service in the US Navy. Working primarily in the power plant as a fireman and steam engineer for much of his career, Mr. Mullan eventually became the plant safety and EPA compliance manager before his retirement. He was was also well known as the head of the local paper-workers union. Mr. Mullan was an active member of the Townsend Greater Grace Church and became its ordained pastor in 1988. An avid outdoors man, Mr. Mullan enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, and motorcycling.
He is survived by his children Robert Mullan, Jr. and his wife Iris of Connecticut, Janice Pakus and her husband Daniel of Pepperell, brother Lindsay Mullan of Ayer and sisters Donna Young of Pepperell, Marlene Porier of Florida, and Bonnie Warren of Ayer. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Melanie and Eric Searle of New Hampshire, Jessica Main and Brittany Stagg of Massachusetts, and Alexander and Elizabeth Mullan of Connecticut, as well as three great grandchildren: Corbin and Conrad Searle of New Hampshire, and Damion Stagg Orton of Massachusetts. He was also father of the late Julie Searle and brother of the late Ronnie Mullan.
