Robert Brooks Thorpe

Robert (Bob) Thorpe passed away peacefully on May 21, 2023. He was the son of Samuel S. Thorpe and Ruth E. (Hazelton) Thorpe of Lowell, MA. He was the brother of the late Samuel S. Thorpe Jr. of Townsend, MA and Frederick W. Thorpe of Tucson, Arizona. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Elizabeth B. Thorpe of Townsend, MA, his two daughters Barbara A. Thorpe of Ashby, MA and Nancy E. Stauffer and her husband Eric Stauffer of Deering, NH, as well as his two grandchildren Lydia E. Palmer of Ashby, MA and Malvern H. Palmer IV of Ashby, MA and three nephews and three nieces.

Robert served in the United States Coast Guard. He worked as a Senior Engineer at Raytheon in Andover, MA for 35 years. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School, Lowell Technical College and Fitchburg State College.

He was a loving husband, father and a devoted grandfather. His love of horses, particularly Morgan horses, he shared with his granddaughter. You could always find him in the garden or the woods. The breadth of his knowledge and skill with tools he shared with his grandson. Bob loved skiing, hunting, cutting trees, maple sugaring, and sailing. He restored a Triumph TR3B Roadster and went on to restore two more and a Model T. He was a member of the New England Triumph Club and later the Mass Miata Club.

He was a quiet, kind soul, and will be missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Parish Church, Unitarian Universalist, Main St., Ashby, MA
