Rose A. MacArthur

Rose A. MacArthur, of Weare, NH peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 24th, in her daughter's home at the age of 96. 

 

Rose was born in Malden, MA on January 4th, 1927 to Nelson P. MacArthur & Julia Daley MacArthur. She graduated from Cheverus Catholic School in Malden and later married William Martino of Wilmington, MA. They had five children and lived in Tewksbury, later moving to Pepperell where she loved the country. 

 

She had a career at the treasury service working in Andover, Washington, DC and Virginia. In 1970 she purchased a plot of land on Thompson Lake Shores in Casco, Maine. Retiring from the treasury over 20 years later, she built her own house there and greatly enjoyed family and friends visiting from all over. She lived out her best years in peace, in the woods where she loved seeing all of the wildlife. 

 

In her seventies she went back to school and attended classes at the University of Maine. She was an avid reader and local library connoisseur. She enjoyed quilting, water coloring and genealogy later on in life. She loved spending time with her grandchildren most of all. 

 

Rose is predeceased by her daughter, Joanne Boone. Rose is survived by her son Dennis Martino and his wife Sandy of Townsend, MA; daughter Mary Valdez and her husband Dave of Atascadero, CA; daughter Susan Gardiner and husband Robert of Weare, NH; daughter Julie Danforth and husband Raymond of Ashburnham, MA; son-in law Burt Boone of Stark, FL. 

 

Rose leaves behind 13 grandchildren; Lisa Centrella and husband Gerald Centrella, Laura Doucette and husband Derek Doucette, Denny Martino and wife Dolly Martino, Kyrie Martino and significant other Ken Chenis, Billy Martino and wife Michelle Martino, Abbey Martino and significant other Josh St. Denis, Jesse McCarthy, Timothy McCarthy, Melissa Gardiner and significant other Larry Tuck, Melanie Gardiner and significant other Brian Healy, Maryjayne Agonis and husband Patrick Agonis, Myles Danforth and wife Wendy Danforth, Angela Danforth and significant other Andrew Hastings. Rose also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren. 

 

Viewing will be held in the McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main St., (Rte. 113) Pepperell, on Thursday, January 4th at 11 am followed by a service 12 pm. Interment will follow at Association Cemetery, Park St., Pepperell.
