Sally Ann Ryan age 78 passed away on Thursday November 17th 2016 at her home in Ayer. She was surrounded by her three daughters and oldest granddaughter.
Sally was born to the late Fredericka (Telyea) and Wesley Roberts September 20, 1938 at their home in Vergennes, Vermont. Sally was the younger of two girls.
The Roberts family moved to Ayer, Massachusetts in 1940. Sally graduated from Ayer High School in 1956. During her high school years she met George Ryan of Harvard, they married September 14, 1957 at the Federated Church in Ayer. They were married for not quite 54 years. They raised three daughters, Julie Ryan-Murphy of Leominster, Rebecca Walker of Belchertown and Cheryl Ryan-Wright of Leominster. Sally has 7 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and 5 step great grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Martha F. Paige.
Sally worked as the Assistant Town Clerk in Ayer, as a teller at North Middlesex Savings Bank in Ayer and also ran for Town Selectman.
Sally resided the last 4 years of her life at the Pleasant Street Housing, where she had attended school as a child. In fact, her apartment had been her 4th Grade classroom.
Sally will always be remembered for her quick/sharp wit, her sense of humor, strength and above all her commitment to family and friends.
A Celebration of Sally’s Life will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 4pm to 7pm at McGaffigan Funeral Home 37 Main St. (Rte. 113) Pepperell. Please see www.mcgaffiganfuneral.com
