Sister Marcelle Theriault SUSC

Marcelle Theriault (Sr. Marie Marcella) SUSC of Mary Immaculate Residence, Lawrence, MA died suddenly on June 2, 2016 at the age of 84. She was born in Lawrence on May 27, 1932, daughter of the late Wilfred and Regina (Lavoie) Theriault. In addition to her Holy Union Sisters, several nieces and nephews survive her. She was predeceased by her sister, Eunice (Theriault) Croteau and her brother Joseph. Her dear friend, Sr. Claire Bergeron, SUSC also survives her.

Sister Marcelle graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Lawrence. She entered the Holy Union Sisters on September 8, 1951, and pronounced her final vows on July 26, 1960. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Catholic Teachers College, Providence and studied at Regis College, Weston, MA where she earned a certificate in Library Science.

Sister Marcelle’s teaching career spanned over thirty years. She taught primary grades at St. Cecilia and St. Jean Baptiste Schools in Pawtucket, RI. In Massachusetts she taught at Sacred Heart School, North Attleboro, Country Day School of the Holy Union, Groton and in her home parish at Sacred Heart School, Lawrence. When she retired from teaching, Sr. Marcelle served in pastoral ministry to the elderly in Lawrence and Lowell.

In 1994, Sr. Marcelle joined the Holy Union Community at St. Mary’s Villa in Lowell
where she served as Eucharistic Minister and driver. She moved to Mary Immaculate Residence, Lawrence in 2006. Sr. Marcelle would have celebrated sixty-five years as a Holy Union Sister in September.
