Sister Paula Marquis (Sr. Therese Edna) SUSC of Mary Immaculate Residence, Lawrence, MA died October 1, 2015 at the age of 93. She was born in Canada on July 2, 1922, daughter of the late Albert and Emma (Lepicier) Marquis. In addition to her Holy Union Sisters, her sister Sr. Therese Marquis SUSC, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews survive her. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marie Marquis, Juliette (Marquis) Belanger, and her brothers Leo, Lawrence, George, and Joseph.
Sister Paula graduated from Notre Dame High School, Cambridge. She entered the Holy Union Sisters on September 8, 1940, and pronounced her final vows on July 26, 1948. She studied at Sacred Heart School of Education, Fall River and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Catholic Teachers College, Providence.
Sister Paula's teaching career spanned over forty years. She taught middle school grades in parish schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including her home parish of Notre Dame in Cambridge. She served as principal and superior at St. James School, Taunton. When she retired from teaching at St. Cecilia School in Pawtucket, she continued to serve there as a nurse's aid, library assistant and school secretary.
In 1987, Sr. Paula joined the Holy Union Community at St. Mary's Villa in Lowell
where she assisted with the care of the sick sisters. She moved to Mary Immaculate Residence, Lawrence in 2006.In 2012 her failing health necessitated moving to the Nursing/Restorative Care Unit at Mary Immaculate. In August, Sr. Paula celebrated seventy-five years as a Holy Union Sister.
