Thomas E. Helmer

(1960 – 2016)

Tom was born on August 24, 1960 in Framingham, MA and grew up in Holliston with his parents Edwin and Barbara. He graduated from Roger Williams University in 1982 with a B.S. in Architectural Engineering. He worked for Raytheon for close to twenty years in their Facilities Management group in the Sudbury and Tewksbury locations. He then took a new job with V.F.A. in Boston as an Architectural Consultant staying with that company close to fifteen years.  While studying at Roger Williams he met his wife, fellow student of Architecture and Historic Preservation, Coleen, and they were married in October of 1984. They first settled in Lowell where they had their two sons, Matt and Michael. In 1993 they moved to Pepperell where they enjoyed the company of new friends and neighbors for over twenty years.

While at VFA, Tom traveled the world seeing locations across the United States, Canada, South America, Europe and Asia. He loved travelling and exploring all of the places he visited and always treated his family with wonderful stories and photos when he returned from his trips. When Tom was home, he loved to be outside where you could always find him working in the yard or on the house. Tom passed along and shared  his love for music, sports, cars and carpentry to his sons. He also loved riding ATV’s with his boys and later you could find him on Lake Winnisquam with the boat and family he so enjoyed.

A remembrance will be held privately with family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made in Tom’s name to the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center or the American Cancer Society.
