Walter A. “Wally” Fernandez passed away from a sudden illness on December 23, 2021. Walter was born October 12, 1935 in Worcester, MA to Artimeo Fernandez of Langas, Philippines and Helen (Haven) Fernandez of Worcester, MA.
Walter worked for the City of Lowell in the Auditor's Office for 28 years. He held the position as the Lowell City Auditor for five years prior to his retirement. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Walter led a life of service and dedicated his time to those in need. He spent 45 years as a member of the Pepperell Lions Club, where he held many positions throughout the organization. He also spent many years coaching local youth football, baseball, and basketball teams.
Walter is survived by his wife Roberta (Stewart) Fernandez of Pepperell; his children Michael Fernandez of Pottstown, PA, Kami Fernandez-Stoupis and her husband Nick of Pepperell, MA, Sean Fernandez and his wife Lisa of Hollis, NH, and Vincent Fernandez and his wife Amy of Pepperell, MA; his 20 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; as well as his sisters Gloria Derry and her husband Peter of Worcester, MA and Shirley Gaito and her husband Dr. Raymond Gaito of Niantic, CT and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter Andrea (Fernandez) McCool.

Visiting hours will be held in the McGaffigan Funeral Home, 37 Main St. (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 4 – 8 p.m. Facial coverings required. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Grace worshipping at St. Joseph’s Church, 28 Tarbell St. Pepperell, MA on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pepperell.
