William Joseph Mangan, 82, of Groton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday August 25, 2026.
Bill was born in Boston, MA, on May 23, 1944, to parents Richard and Louise Mangan and brother Richard (Dicky) Mangan, and sister Louise DelGreco, all who have predeceased him.
Bill was raised in Cambridge, where he discovered a love for football and education that would lead him to Harvard University and then on to receiving his Doctorate in Education from Boston College.
Bill was a dedicated educator for over 40 years at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, choosing to spend retirement teaching English for an additional 10 years at Matignon High School. His legacy lives on in the countless students he has taught and teachers he has mentored.

Cooking was always a passion for Bill with renowned specialties of gumbo, plum pudding and cream cheese brownies. Bill was a lifelong aspiring musician with an affinity for both guitar and piano. Well known for his love of Prince Edward Island, Bill spent 70 plus summers at his home away from home and enjoyed sharing the sunsets with those he loved. In his final years, Bill enjoyed bird watching from his kitchen in Groton.
Above all, Bill was a devoted husband to his wife Mary (Mitchell) for over 56 years, sharing daughter Jessica, son-in-law Dan Barie and four grandchildren, Ava, Layla, Eliza and Daniel.
Bill will forever be in the hearts of his extended family: brothers in law Gerard Mitchell (Mary Jane), Joseph Mitchell, and George Mitchell, sisters in law Helen Forgette, Jean Mitchell, and Marian Mitchell, nieces Erin Mtchell Trainor and Mari-Margaret Forgette, and nephews Nathaneal Mitchell and Eric Mitchell.
