Ivan Hamilton Mimms passed away peacefully on April 21, 2021. He was born on July 27, 1954 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Helen H. and Duval Mimms.
Ivan grew up in Amityville, Long Island NY where he attended Amityville Public Schools. After high school, Ivan attended and completed Long Island School for EKG. Ivan then moved to several cities and states: Chicago, IL; Newport News, VA; Dayton, OH; Lynchburg, VA; Richmond, VA; Louisville, KY; Charlotte, NC; Pawtucket, RI; Albany, NY; and finally due to his illness, Ayer, MA with sister Nancy E. Richardson, where he was well cared for until his final hours.
Ivan worked for several companies in his life including Anthony Medical Supplies, Boca Bearings, and McClane Company, from which he retired in 2017.
Ivan will be remembered as a lover of classic cars, antiques, and for his famous cheese cake. He was a fun-loving person who loved to dance and sing, and gather with family and friends.
Ivan is preceded in death by brothers Howard H. Mimms and Edward R. Mimms, and sister Harriette O. Plowden. He is survived by brother David T. Mimms of Brooklyn, NY, sister Nancy E. Richardson of Ayer, MA and brother DuVall A. Mimms of North Babylon, Long Island. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and medical support at Albany Medical Oncology, Emerson Hospital Oncology, and Care Dimensions Hospice House, Lincoln. Special acknowledgement to Tonishia Mimms, Shauntice Plowden, George O. Richardson, George A. Richardson, and Kena Mimms.
A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Harvard Road, Ayer on Saturday, May 8th at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
