James Francis "Mickey" McManus

James F. McManus, age 95, of Dunstable, MA passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022 at home with his family by his side.

James was born in 1927 in Dorchester, MA to the late James Francis McManus and Ethel Emily Carr.

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth Norma Carlson, daughter Michelle Louise Naylor/Keyser, his sisters Joan Elizabeth, Florence Conti, Virginia Stanton and his brothers William Thomas and Robert Allen McManus.

James grew up in Dorchester and attended Rochambeau School, Boston English High, Boston Trade School and Northeastern University, where he received a degree in chemical engineering.

A World War II and Korean War Veteran, he served in the Navy and the Coast Guard. After his service of 8 years, he worked for the Boston area and Portsmouth, NH Ship Yards as a machinist. In 1963, he went to work for Monsanto Chemical Co., then in 1964 took a job for New Hampshire Chemical in Nashua NH in the Engineering Department. In 1990, he retired from W.R. Grace as a Senior Project Engineer.

In 1964, James with his wife and children moved from Weymouth to Dunstable. After that time, he was a member of the Dunstable Volunteer Fire Dept. for 20 years retiring as a Captain. He was very involved in the town and instrumental in establishing the first Little League Team and ball field. He was also active in the Boy Scouts. He was recognized as The Oldest Veteran and recently The Oldest Citizen of the town.

He loved gardening and his yard, golfing, building furniture in his work shop, a good ball game, and holiday get-together’s with family. He loved and appreciated the many friends he made in Dunstable.

James is survived by his sister Patricia Bridges & husband Edward of Plymouth, 3 children, Wayne T, Lee A Seeger both of Dunstable and Leslie J Worthy and husband Thomas of Indiana. He also survived by 10 grandchildren (Sean, Eric, Shanon, Noelle, Billy, Bryan, Craig, Rebekah, Derek, and Christopher), 14 great-grandchildren (Echo, Paige, Abby, Aidan, Nicholas, Autumn, Connor, Kairi, Joshua, Lucy, Jack, Liesl, Aubrey, Emma) and 1 great-great-grandson Aiden . He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Daphne and Ashley at Nashoba Nursing Service & Hospice for their kindness and support and a special thank you to Sue Tully at the Dunstable Senior Center for the special things you do.

McMANUS – James Francis "Mickey", of Dunstable. April 4, 2022. Late World War II and Korean War Veteran. Visiting hours will be held in the McGaffigan Funeral Home, 37 Main St., (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA on Sunday, April 10th from 2 – 4 p.m. His graveside service will be held at Central Cemetery, Westford St., Dunstable on Tuesday, April 12th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dunstable Volunteer Firefighters Association, 28 Pleasant St., PO Box 96, Dunstable, MA 01827, or to the Dunstable Council on Aging, 511 Main St., Dunstable, MA 01827.
