Kenneth Joseph Farrow

March 2, 1928 — November 15, 2020

Kenneth Joseph Farrow

Kenneth Joseph Farrow, age 92, of Pepperell, MA passed away at his home on Sunday, November 15, 2020.

Ken was born on March 2, 1928 in Avon, Connecticut, and was one of nine children.  He joined the army in the late 1940’s and served our country for over 20 years as a soldier and accomplished rifleman during the Korean War, and several years after discharge in the army reserve.  During this time, Ken met and married his first wife, Barbara, and had four children.  His family settled in Ayer, MA, where they resided for many years.

As a lover of nature and the outdoors, Ken spent most of his leisure time hunting, fishing, and taking walks in the woods all over New England.  Animals were amazingly attracted to him, and he often found himself surrounded by wildlife, specifically his pet racoon, Spicey, his Labrador, Spunky, and most recently his grand-dog, Max.  For over 10 years, Ken also assisted in landscaping at Babbitassit Village, enjoying the outdoors and running the community’s Kubota tractor.  He took pride in caring for the grounds at Babbitassit, and greatly enjoyed the company and many cups of coffee with his friends and neighbors.

Ken was a frequent customer of several breakfast spots in the area.  He met his second wife, Joyce, at the old Howard Johnson’s restaurant in Nashua, NH, and was frequently spotted at Denny’s in Nashua, NH.  He most recently joined the early morning crowd at Charlotte’s Cozy Kitchen in Pepperell, MA, where he would hang the morning flag and spend time with his friends and fellow coffee drinkers.

Ken is survived by his wives Barbara and Joyce, his sons Kenneth and Daniel, his daughter Joan, stepdaughter Deanna, and sister Beatrice.  He has many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren spread throughout the country.  He is predeceased by his oldest son David, who also joined the military and served our country honorably for many years, and good friend Billy Walsh, whom he missed dearly.  Ken is also predeceased by several grand-dogs, Corey, Taggle, Willow, Babe, and Cody, whom loved him very much.

Visiting hours for Ken will be held at McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main Street, Pepperell, MA, on Monday, November 30, 2020 from 6pm to 8pm.  Face coverings and social distancing requirements will be observed during this time. Interment at Massachusetts State Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon will be private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Ken's Memory may be made to VFW Post 3291, P.O. Box 1339, Pepperell, MA 01463.

The family would like to thank the staff at the VA Clinic in Lowell, MA for their superb care during the last 30 years, specifically his nurse practitioner Mary Witkos, and nurse Maureen Hawkins.  We would also like to thank David and Cathleen Walsh of Walsh Brothers Construction, and their sons David and Jimmy, for their close and loving friendship with Ken.  Their family truly meant the world to him.
