Mildred "Milly" Janet (Goldthwaite) Cunningham

Mildred (Milly) Janet Goldthwaite Cunningham lived a long and full life. She loved hand crafts. Her greatest passion was quilting. She taught quilting for many years before, while, and after owning her quilt shop, the Schoolhouse Gallery. A Quilters Gathering, an annual quilt show which attracts quilters from all over the Northeast, invited and featured an exhibit of her quilts. She was a founding member of the New England Quilt Guild. In later years she lent her talents to the Aqua Room of the Groton Community School. Each year the children would create ideas for a quilt. Milly would bring their ideas to life. These quilts have hung at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House in West Roxbury, and last year at the Massachusetts State House.

A lifelong member of the Dunstable Congregational Church, she sang in the junior choir and continued singing in the choir until she was physically unable. In her later years she would say she was the longest continual member of the choir.

She loved Cape Cod. She would take her children Barry and Beth to her parents’ camp for a week every Summer. In later years she would take her granddaughters Laura and Jillian to visit the Cape at her sister Weezie’s house.

One of eight children born to Rea and Marjorie Goldthwaite, Milly is preceded In death by her parents; husband, James Cunningham; daughter, Beth Hebert; siblings Louise Sandstrom, Lawrence Goldthwaite, Virginia Stakun, Rosalie Lynch, and Marie Walsh. She is survived by her son, Barry Cunningham; sister, Nancy Leech; brother, Donald Goldthwaite; granddaughters Laura (Daniel) Leonard and Jillian Hebert; great-granddaughters Amy and Hadley Leonard; a large extended family; and countless friends.
