Richard Joseph Coutu, Sr.

Richard Joseph Coutu Sr., 69 of Townsend, MA passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, October 25th after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. Born in Lowell, MA on April 27, 1951 where he was a regular and familiar face on all playing fields. An exceptional athlete with a love of camaraderie. A friend to most and a hero to many. Known most for his undeniable kindness and ability to make anyone laugh. Always the life of the party with a laugh like no other. He loved family, friends, and food, and not always in that order. Rich will be missed by all whose lives he has touched.

He leaves behind a loving wife and best friend of 38 years, Cathy A. Coutu. He is survived by five children, Katherine E. Coutu and husband Daniel Farrell, Richard J. Coutu Jr and wife Jill, Jaime B. Coutu and partner David Chesbrough, Jonathan M. Coutu and wife Kara, Brittany M. Newton and husband Robert. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren, Krystal, Kassandra, Adam, Amber, Justin, Jason, Katie, Camryn, Carter, Natalie, Brock, and Dallas as well as seven great-grandchildren. Also survived by two siblings. Brother, Jean L. Coutu and wife Christine and Kathryn J. Hooper and husband Richard and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to St. Jude's.
