William Alfred "Bill" Butts, 80, of Pepperell, Massachusetts passed away peacefully with his wife by his side in his home on Monday, January 10, 2022.

Bill was born on March 14, 1941 to Franklin A. Butts and Helmy (Easton) Butts in Poughkeepsie, NY.  Bill graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and went on to Wentworth Institute of Technology then Northeastern University for a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering.  He worked many years as an electrical engineer and was a recognized expert in ion implantation.  Throughout his career, he was afforded opportunities to travel extensively for work, building professional and personal relationships with colleagues in Japan, France, and Germany.

Bill was an avid volunteer.  He spent 28 years volunteering with the Pepperell Fire Department and 7 years at the Littleton Fire Department. He loved talking about driving the ladder truck in parades!  Later in life, he volunteered with the National Streetcar Museum at Lowell, MA and Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, ME as a trolley motorman.

Bill will be remembered fondly by friends and family for: his sense of humor, his willingness to lend a helping hand, his steadfast support of his children's achievements, and his love of trains, trolleys and the fire department.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Marianne (Downey) Butts, son Christopher Butts and wife Marriah of Newton, MA, son Andrew Butts and wife Marjo of Eureka, CA, daughter Meghan Butts and wife Erin of Lebanon, NH, and son Stephen Butts and wife Melissa of New Ipswich, NH.  Bill was very proud of his eight grandchildren: Celsiana, Eli, Luna, Henry, Sol, Norah, Bailey, and Grayson.  He is also survived by his brother Allison Butts and wife Ellen of Chevy Chase, MD, and sister Catherine (Butts) Hanley and husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL, and sister-in-law Rosemary Butts of Poughkeepsie, NY.  In addition to his parents and many dear family members, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roland Butts of Poughkeepsie, NY.
